S_V_H More Than You Know image2&3

More Than you know 24inches by 6 feet in length.  Judging from these two images done a day apart that this painting has been flipped; but not it wasn’t but this artist was surprised to see the change.  That is how art evolves.  Between image 2 and 3 is a lot of wasted paint, time, and the fear, more then once, that the work was lost.  You never know exactly why you do things, because like a lot of artists, your next move is the one that goes with  a feeling, an instinct, a guess, or the desperation to quit thinking, and put down some paint so you have something else to look at.

More’s background is close to be finished for now…..

Listening to The Temptations – Just My Imagination.

Originally, there was a desire to work more with browns, and then bring the blues in when the music was added.   Going from Burnt Sienna, to Umber,  to Van Dyke Brown, toPurple, Prussian Blue, Azurite Blue, and Ultramarine, and Cobalt Blue, and then, finally, having more fun with, light violet, a few Cyans,  Cerulean blue, and Phthalo Turquois, finally put this artwork back into focus.  Every new artwork put me on the line.  In other words, this artist feels he is only as good as the work that is currently being done.  Every work that is finished proves, at that moment only, that there was still something left to be painted.

Understand this art is very different from landscape, or portrait, or still works, all wonderful genres.  Painting a portrait is different with every sitting.  Painting a landscape is different with every view, or time of day.  Every still life is different by changing to the objects.  This musical art …

Jay-Z – The Blueprint 2: The Gift

…is more and more, in this artist view a work of Abstraction, a creation that is pulled  from imagination.   Sure, the flow of the music helps, but that is all this art starts with.  Everything you see, comes from nothing that has ever existed.  That does not mean that this art is anything special, every artist creates unique works.  Still, looking at Hallelujah, or Thunder Road, this artist knows for a moment  that there is something going on here, that something unique could be happening.  That feeling quickly fades knowing that more time and huge amount effort is needed to…..

How Far – Martina McBride

… prove this art’s Worth.  That moment, that occurs when needed,  is all that is needed to keep the brushes moving.

S_V_H More Than You Know image1

More Than you Know a torch song with the version by Sara Vaughan…..listening to Hard Headed Woman song by Elvis Presley….putting this classic into this painters Q.   All Image one’s are not to be taken seriously, they are done quickly with some thought to positioning but mostly the color theme for the music.  The purpose of Image 1 is to do something to cover the pure white of a freshly primed canvas (three extra coats over the factory prime).

Listening to The Beatles Things We Said Today.  In a Classic Mood, is the guess.   This image will disappear but unlike a lot of  previous Image ones,  it is the feeling that the range of browns will have……

Chicago  If You Leave Me Now

……staying power with this more moody music.  A three inch roller was used on this base, with the paint put on in bloches inorder to give the base this look. That method of applying paint is new to this art.  Tonight, lets see if we can push that style to see if it breaks.

Listening to Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets singing Blast Off  (upbeat Blues)

Let’s roll and spread some paint!

S_V_H Baby Love final image

Listening to Ironic by Alanis Morissette.  This is the final image of this painting titled Baby Love 24 inches by 6 feet.  The words chosen for this work because they would challenge some, maybe most, viewers.  The line from the music that they relate to is “Instead of breaking up let’s start some kissing and making up.”   Is that music not sweet and innocent, which was apart of that Time that I was raised and help formed a foundation of many of us.

Listening to We Belong by Ferry Corsten.  A lot of time was spent trying to do something different with the couple of musical ties, and that is where Jackson Pollack comes in.  The style ideas come from his painting Number 2 1949 ( A  much better image is in the book Jackson Pollack that was publish for The Museum of Modern Art and the Tate Exhibition of  1998-99). No matter, the ties are not Pollack they are at best, little inserts, to shake up the larger canvas and add interest.

Listening to Chopin Nocturne #2 In E Flat, Op. 9/2.

One thing missing from this work are the little solid circles inside the notes that give them motion.  They just did not fit with this composition, no matter how they where drawn and colored. Overall, the canvas could have been improved with some added impact on the far upper left. Although rethinking that, the  right is strong in appearance and maybe that helps to push this image across the canvas.   The coloring evolved to try and push this work more in the color scheme of the  thought of what the appearance of the musical group the Supremes might have been (TV back then was black and white).   For example a touch of that choice of coloring is seen above in that pinkest red rest (the small circle with the slanted line).

Listening to Ophelia by The Band and then Home Remedy by Adrienne Young & Little Sadie.

Time to move on to another 6 foot work.  This size is chosen again, because it is small enough to re-work it if needed.  This artist is still thinking his style still needs a lot of work and so there is this aching and need to experiment.  The basics are there, but the feeling is that things just have not been pushed hard enough.  A lot of work remains.  Looking forward to that.

Listening to Jackson Browne For A Dancer.  Nice music to end this page.
