S_V_H Ain’t No Sunshine image3

No Sunshine.  Wow…. this one was stuck for a day. This last Sunday night it was a struggle to feel anything for this work: Weekends and Life can be hard on the art.  But there it sat on the easel, and there was some time set aside for art, and the brush was put to work even though the creative mind showed up missing: Baby steps, it is always about baby steps to keep painting, and believe.

Things where moving again on Monday night although the words where completely removed and moved down 2 centimeters. They just did not feel right, no matter how small that move might be, it accomplished a better balance. Tonight it is about doing something with those beams.

It is never about perfection, for like it has been said in the end, in the finished, it is the accepting of the not perfect that gives each of these works their individuality, without any excuses, keeping true to the feel of the music.

I would like to thank Al Kratzer from the thepaintednote for featuring some very early work and the music it was created for.  Those baby steps again.

S_V_H ain’t No Sunshine image2

No sunshine moving right along.  This is not the happiest tune, so subtle, and toned down colors where chosen.  The question can be asked about how are the original colors chosen?  At times when starting a new work, it is the challenge to find a combo of colors that are different from the past. Sometimes it feels that there just are not enough colors to choose from.  The more the art the better the understanding of how colors work for and against each other.   It justs takes time.

The thinking is that there will be only about twenty more good years left in this creative quest and time is at a premium. This is about life in art and the time needed, and the delicate health balance to be  maintained between work, family, and the Art.  So far only a few bumps.

It took until the age of fifty-seven to find the right path to a life time dream.  Ashame it took so long but like today much of the time was spent helping others.  This afternoon,  under a desk attaching cables and hearing the voices of those standing around this thought occurred:  what the hell was the dream of being a famous artist doing under a desk on his knees, catering like a servant, and away from his art? The simple answer is doing the job.

What will it take, and will it take it all before this is all done?

S_V_H Winter final image

Winter is finished and this is the musical work that changes everything, for now.  This work finishes the evolution of the note. Early paintings from  2005 into 2008 resembled the typical musical note.  What is meant is that the note was drawn as a oblong and laid almost flat.   Starting in the spring of 2008 the notes began to be lifted for two reasons: first by increasing the height in comparison to the width, more notes could be placed across a canvas.  The other equally important reason for raising up the notes was to give them more of an  active, and dynamic appearance.  Looking back it appears that early 2010 the notes where becoming quite vertical, thinking Sandman.

Then it was the use of a number of different lids, from the painting jars, that where used to create the circles seen on Naive Melody.  Not only did this solved the 8th notes style issue, for now, but it opened the door to Winter to finish the notations move to vertical.   It seems so simple now, but it would not have work until now: time for everything, and everything has its time.  Art is at its best when the artist is right on but of those points, for now.

Winter is based on the beautiful music of  Tori Amos.  Three different versions were played over and over and over, and are being played right now.  The music is only hers, this art is only the expression of the feelings for the love of the music.  It has always been about the music.
