This is the left size of Naive Melody. An interesting part of this canvas is all those circles next to the first note.   What are they?   A Music Theory education or even the ability to read sheet music may help,  but  neither is necessary to know that  those circles are simply the new look of  this art’s abstraction, of what could be called a typical  note  (borrowed image) :
In Cry Me a River, an with a number of previous works, these fun notes where more in the shape of fans.  Last night a feeling of frustration over not wanting to do the fan thing again with the eighth note was the wall that was confronted, standing and starring, tired and  full of blank thoughts, bored and disappointed.  Then,  just like that, circles came out of nowhere.  No clue,  just there, and all the efforts spent to find something new these last many months,  faded to nothing: reaching nothing created an opening to something. The thought now is that there is plenty of room for expression to grow with these shapes.  We shall see, what the next painting brings, for sure what starts and what ends is always the surprise.

Naive Melody right side.  Progress has been slow, but the confidence is high that this work is the one that carries forward the efforts of the Birthday painting.  There was something about doing a painting all in one day that separated that one work from everything before and everything after, until now.  Naive, is the same size as the birthday painting Long & Winding and Cry, just completed, but  Naive appears to have completed the leap in style change that occurred this last day of July.

Personally,  anyone walking by this work, will never make it any further without stopping, and starring, and  wondering  “what is up the this wall decoration?”  That is all the response that will be needed to set the hook. Music is about “catching the ear of the listener”, and this painting puts it in your face and dumps all over you like a splash of water from a passing car.   Clean up, come back  tomorrow.

Naive Melody center part of image.     The long weekend away from the art has had its effect, and it is only now that there is a coming around, a back to art reality,  a in the zone, a momentum shift, a clear sense of direction, a sense of oneness.  The art is crawling back, returning out from the blurriness of this moods soft focus.

The notes…what can be done different? From the albums cover there is a circle of small blue squares that brought to mind the notes and they have been painted a dark blue to keep with the color theme. Only a few notes in blue have been attempted so far, because it is not sure what else can be done, and if there maybe some other way of expressing them.   It is easy just to abstract this oblong shape, but the question remands how to maintain that sense and the flow of the music they represent? Those notes are a core of this art and visual statement of its uniqueness.  Something is going to happen. It is there within reach just not reachable. Not yet.
