Naive Melody right side.  Progress has been slow, but the confidence is high that this work is the one that carries forward the efforts of the Birthday painting.  There was something about doing a painting all in one day that separated that one work from everything before and everything after, until now.  Naive, is the same size as the birthday painting Long & Winding and Cry, just completed, but  Naive appears to have completed the leap in style change that occurred this last day of July.

Personally,  anyone walking by this work, will never make it any further without stopping, and starring, and  wondering  “what is up the this wall decoration?”  That is all the response that will be needed to set the hook. Music is about “catching the ear of the listener”, and this painting puts it in your face and dumps all over you like a splash of water from a passing car.   Clean up, come back  tomorrow.

Naive Melody center part of image.     The long weekend away from the art has had its effect, and it is only now that there is a coming around, a back to art reality,  a in the zone, a momentum shift, a clear sense of direction, a sense of oneness.  The art is crawling back, returning out from the blurriness of this moods soft focus.

The notes…what can be done different? From the albums cover there is a circle of small blue squares that brought to mind the notes and they have been painted a dark blue to keep with the color theme. Only a few notes in blue have been attempted so far, because it is not sure what else can be done, and if there maybe some other way of expressing them.   It is easy just to abstract this oblong shape, but the question remands how to maintain that sense and the flow of the music they represent? Those notes are a core of this art and visual statement of its uniqueness.  Something is going to happen. It is there within reach just not reachable. Not yet.

This is the start of a commissioned art work 2 feet by 6 feet based on the music This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody).  Not knowing that much about this artist some research was done with everything following-in-place when the music was found on the album Speaking in Tongues by the Talking Heads.  Naive Melody was played during the wedding some 30 years ago and it is this artwork that is going to be a part of an anniversary celebration.   It is the hope of the artist that she has a sense of humor.

Commissions are rare at this early stage of this artist career.  So, there was a passing concern that being that there was money on the line that this would affect decisions.  Surprisingly, so far that has not happened and hopefully, never will compromise be the controlling factor in anyone of the many decisions that are required to create this, or any other, work of art.  It is late and time to go, but there will be much more to be said about this subject, but to finish for now.

With Naive, it is the interesting album cover for this music, that makes for a challenging but door opening use of color.  This method is a reminder of the Birthday painting whose colors were based on a Van Gogh landscape.  There are actually 7 photos taken tonight of progress with this work, of which here are 3 more:
