Stand by Me a small update.  Time to talk about this artwork, all things considered.  A token admirer said looking at Winter, I believe, that it looked Art Deco.  It was said as a dismissive statement. This person has yet to purchase any of this art, but expects to be privileged, long story.

The style of Art Deco was not an intention of this artist, thinking nothing of it until  that comment was made.  There is no doubt this artist likes the style of Art Deco,  Memphis, Art Nouveau for examples.  But, how this style came about was because it was so time consuming to  duplicate dozens of oblong shapes.  What tipped the thinking was the reality that the standard music notation had evolved from a flat oblong object.  Over artworks that oblong shape was was slowly being raised up to a high sharp angled oblong, to increase their size and impact.  The next logical step then became the circle.

The problem with the circle was that object does not have the sense of motion that the up raised notes.  Once the way to put motion into the circle was figured out the circle then began to change all other aspects of this art.  Things just happen, so if this work is a little Art Deco, or is indebted to a dozen other artist or art “isms” that is OK.  A little research is needed, so Art Deco the Definitive Guide was purchase to add to the expanding Art book collection that has been going on for forever amount of years.  Art Deco is a wide style, and some comparisons and  some benefit may come  from inside this book, but the thought is, the Art is going to go wherever it has to go to prove its worth.

Since this is a smaller painting it was a concern not to put much effort into any minute detail.  Small details are the enemy of this art.  It must be in your face from 8 feet back, for example.  If at that distance the detail is hard to discern then that time was wasted, and painted out. That is an important rule.  Now, if only that rule could be extended to Life, so much more time could be available for painting.  Not, going to happen.

An effort has been growing to search through the Art blogs looking at the many diverse representations of what is art. So far it has not been awarding.  There is some Art history, which has been good, but mostly just stuff to hang on an empty wall, that  coordinates well with the color scheme.

All Art is wall decoration, but not all wall decoration is Art.

Deciding  if the end goal is to sell, or to make a name for one self, or to change the direction of Art History, or to satisfy one’s own ego, can, at times, sum up the ambitions of this Artist. The one nagging thing that perplexes is one simple honest truth which counters everything else.  That thing is that sub conscience push, and push, and push more one’s own self to see if what has been assumed all of his life, that could be accomplish (if he just put his mind to it) actually could happen: can this person be uniquely creative?

The search for an answer, has accelerated, because now  there is a looming concern that so many years have already gone by , and still, and still, and still the personnel goal of self  creative self enlightenment (sounds good) through some art form has yet to be unfilled.  This artist is  still unfilled, and yet so many of these written words appear to be some form of continuous  motivation through reflection, that will of course change nothing, nothing.

What can change everything, is doing the Art at a level that goes beyond wall decoration, and that goes beyond hanging on these walls to hanging on those walls, in those cities.  That is the simple truth, and yet life and distraction has always gotten in the way of the dream. The realization, now, that time is short, has re-focused this Artist.  It will all come down to this quest:  Five years into this obsession can this Artist find what has forever been a nagging omission in his life?   Can the Art that flows from the music, fill the bill?  We shall see.  Only time will tell.

Stand 24inches by 6 feet.  There was some hope that more could have been done before taking this picture, but sometimes it takes time for the ideas to develop.  You see, this is not a clone of Hallelujah.  This work would not let that happen.  It is clear it does want the best from the past, but it also demands to find its own solid footing.

Building on the past is important, for this artwork comes from way inside, and is never part of any master plan or really any ideas on paper, beyond the basics.  Those current basics are fill the canvas with multiple sections of color and try to create as interesting a background as possible.  Then when the flow of the music is down, go back over the background and make the open areas even more interesting.   The flow of the notes is always from left to right with all of them being the same size and colors to keep the flow moving. Words are used if words where used in the music.  The signature is generally done in Light Red and is put in an empty area and large.

This work is slowing growing in meaning.  It will still take time to move away emotionally, from Hallelujah.  Each of these works have a strong emotional bond with the artist that lasts till it is removed the final time from the main easel.  The bond is then broken, and the spiritually relationship between the artist and his work slowly make the transition require in order to move on.

It has been interesting, when updating the website with past works these last few days, how much has been forgotten, including the names of the works.  What a surprise.  So much from the heart is put into each of these paintings, some much of the focus is concentrated that plans for starting the next, never mature. So much emotion is put into the choice of the music that is  has to be played each night.  So much is given to create the best possible artwork, that it is strange to see how quickly everything that has been done is forgotten.  Life is always about moving on.  Life is a lot about forgetting the past. Life is a fleeting remembrance.   Thanks to this blog and its real purpose, the documentation to preserve the story of this artwork, the artist survives to paint another day.

Artist note:  This is the 161 blog entry and still it appears this blog is reaching no one.  That is understandable.  This artist knowns he can do more to make things happen.  This artist also knows it is going to take time.  This artist knows….but.

Listening to Aimee Mann’s It’s Not from her album Lost in Space.  That song set the mood for this night.  Also The Stand By Me music that is best like, and played each night is by Playing For Change.
